Summary of the Project :
This project focusses on providing Health Care services to the physically challenged people living in the remote villages in Karnataka. Mobile Health Clinics are mini-doctor’s clinic on the move –with basic medicines, a doctor, a nurse and an attendant.
Challenge:
It is always difficult for Physically Challenged persons living in remote villages to travel for medical care. For the disabled/ physically challenged patients, there is no exclusive public transport facility like govt. bus service / private van / rental cars with provision for a ramp, safety railings and space for accommodating Wheel Chairs in the vehicle. Most of the persons with disability in the villages are from poor economic backgrounds and hence, they find it hard to access proper medical care when they are sick or perennially ill. They end up taking home medicines and non-prescribed pills which pose serious threat to their health and lives. There is no preventive medical care for them as their health status is not a priority for the other members in the family. This leads to prolonged illness and chronic problems. Even a mild disease which is treatable at the initial stage gets aggravated if not treated at the right time. Hundreds of physically challenged people in the remote villages are waiting for professional medical care.
Solution:
Mobile Health clinics are the only effective solution for this significant healthcare problem. Mobile clinics are customized vehicles that travel to the heart of communities in the villages, and provide prevention and healthcare services where the disabled people work, stay and live. They overcome barriers of time, money, and trust, and provide community-tailored care to those vulnerable members of the society. A mobile health clinic is a van equipped with clinical infrastructure and medical equipment and carries a Doctor, a nurse and an attendant to the villages. The doctor meets the disabled persons who are sick in their own villages and provides them with timely treatment and medicines. There will be a Monthly travel planner drafted along with the community volunteers so that the villages where the need is more given priority and treatment is given free of cost. By providing medical care at the doorsteps of those physically challenged people, this project would solve one of the most pressing needs of our society. Result: Those poor, physically disabled persons in the remote villages will also have quality medical care and lead healthy lives.
Long term Impact :
By providing medical care at the doorsteps of those poor physically challenged persons, this project will have a long term impacts such as: Healthy lifestyle, more time for work/ economic activity leading more income, happiness, self-esteem and more importantly productive citizens for our country.
